Easy pay at 350 toll plazas by December

Motorists will soon be able to zip past select highway toll plazas across the country by December. Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, recently said at a convention that as many as 350 toll plazas will have Electronic Tolling facilities which would enable the driver with RFID tags on their vehicles to drive through the toll plazas, avoiding the need to pay on each trip. These plazas would also have electronic weighing bridges which would check overloading by commercial vehicles with all data reaching RTOs through satellite communication. Any overloading beyond ten percent of the prescribed limit would attract a stiff penalty for truck owners.
