Easing out traffic the easier way

Shyam-Sujan

Shyam Sujan,

The traffic jams happen due to various type of transportation like cycle rickshaws, e-rickshaws, autos, grameen tempos and buses. Besides, goods transport vehicles like cycle rikshaws, tempos and mini trucks etc. And parking of vehicles on roads adds to chaos. On such congested roads, the only way out is to provide Mono rails on central verge of roads. It will require only six to eight feet of space to construct the system. This will be very effective to remove all kind miscellaneous transport. To make it user friendly, there should be a station every 500 meters and the raised walkways should lead to the monorail stops.

Efforts should be made that all such Mono rail sections are joined to ensure full connectivity for longer travel.  Private companies may be allotted sectors to construct and run the Monorail under Build, Own and Operate system. As a part of conditions, they may also be asked to create proper cycle path and raised pedestrian walk-way above the cycle path which will lead to Monorail station and also allow pedestrians to cross the road to other side through these walk-ways.

Pedestrian path way can be covered from top with decorative arch shaped canopy to provide shade to make walking comfortable. The height of cycle track should not be more than 10 feet,  a height good enough for cyclists. The walk way should have steps to go up & down every 200 to 300 meters and crossing to other side every 500 meters.   Both cycle paths and walkways can be covered from sides with green vines to make it more cool and shaded.

Advantage of Monorails

Monorails have found applications in airport transfer and medium capacity metros.. Monorail requires a single rail serving as a track for passenger or freight vehicle, and  can  run at grade, below grade or in subway tunnels.  But to expedite installation of Monorail faster and economical, it is recommended to have it only elevated.

From the passenger’s perspective, monorails can have many advantages over trains, buses, and automobiles. As with other grade-separated transit systems, monorails avoid red lights, intersection turns, and traffic jams. Monorails eliminate road and pedestrians accidents, do not necessarily need air-conditioning and can replace all small modes like rickshaws, three wheelers, tempos etc and provide faster and safer travel at the same price. Monorails can be quieter than diesel buses and trains. They obtain electricity from the track structure, eliminating costly and unsightly overhead power lines and poles.
