If we want our roads to be smart, we need smart and intelligent street lighting solution that changes the way public lighting is controlled, managed and maintained. This means maximum road safety with minimum cost. The process involves much more than replacing conventional lamps with LED light sources. The lighting system should adapt to street conditions & demands and provide illumination as per requirement. This issue of TrafficInfraTech looks at how the lighting is changing from being just a standalone infrastructure facility to become an urban communications and management system offering commuter experiences beyond just illumination. Now coming to Smart Highways, Venkat Chunduru, COO, Infrovate, starts from this issue his analysis on the need to redefine the Indian highways. This first part of the essay emphasizes on converting highways from physical infrastructure to a pool of end user centric services.

In the parking segment, India is witnessing the use of different technologies for both fully automated and semi-automated parking facilities. However, Raman Sharma. MD, CAME India says that Parking Technology has not yet been fully absorbed and the benefit fully understood. With Space becoming scarce, parking is a growing concern.
