Drones to monitor express highways

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and Public Works Department, are toying with the idea of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, to monitor round-the-clock traffic and road conditions on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and eastern and western express highways respectively.

Drones are used on a large scale for traffic management in the US and China. They inform toll operators, traffic police and engineering teams about bad roads and lane-cutting by heavy vehicles, for effective action.
