Mumbai may get air-conditioned trains

Mumbai may soon get air-conditioned trains on the suburban section. The Railways has been holding discussions with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Dutch technical consulting firm Structon Rail and the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) on the matter. Surveys conducted by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation have shown commuters favouring the introduction of air-conditioned trains. BHEL is expected to supply 30-tonne air-conditioners for each coach. The design of the electric equipment has been finalised. After approval from the RDSO, the electrical equipment will be sent by BHEL to the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai to be fitted in the coaches.
