Unravelling the
ETC growth story in India
National Highway Authority of India aims to take FASTag program to new
heights, where a vehicle user can travel throughout the country without
stopping at any toll plaza thereby ushering a new era of transparency
and contributing to the national goal of promoting a ‘Digital Economy’
and making it easier for businesses to operate in the country. Akhilesh
Srivastava, Chief General Manager (CGM), IT & Highway Operations,
National Highways Authority of India writes about the journey of FASTag
he total annual Toll Collection by NHAI through its 425+ toll plazas spread across the length and width of the
country, exceeded Rs 22,000 Cr as on March 31, 2018, an amount that is further utilized for enhancing and
maintaining the road network across the country. The Toll, or the User Fees, is levied and collected as per
provisions of the National Highways Act, 1956 and Rules made there under. The salient features of the current
Tpolicy are shown to the right.
